Regular oral hygiene appointments are essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums, preventing gum disease, and avoiding tooth decay. Our experienced hygienists provide gentle, thorough cleanings tailored to your individual needs – removing biofilm (plaque), calculus (tartar), and surface stains that brushing alone can’t reach.
We offer Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT®), the most advanced, pain-free cleaning technique available. Using state-of-the-art Airflow technology and a special disclosing dye, GBT® targets biofilm build up precisely for a deeper, gentler clean that leaves your teeth and gums healthier than ever. This method is ideal for everyone, especially if you have braces, implants, or gum disease.

Professional dental hygiene treatments help prevent common oral health issues and keep your mouth feeling clean and comfortable
Reduce risk of gum disease - Thorough removal of biofilm and calculus helps prevent inflammation and bleeding.

A dental hygienist is specially trained to help keep your teeth and gums healthy. They remove biofilm (plaque) and calculus (tartar) build-up, give your teeth a professional clean, and provide personalised advice on brushing, flossing, and diet.
Most patients benefit from a hygiene visit every 3–6 months, depending on their oral health. If you’re prone to gum disease, we may recommend more frequent visits.
A professional clean should not be painful. Some patients feel mild sensitivity during or after treatment, especially if there is existing gum inflammation, but this usually settles quickly. Local anaesthetic can be used for deep cleaning if necessary.
Gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis) is caused by bacteria in plaque. Early signs include bleeding gums, bad breath, and tenderness. Regular hygiene visits are the best way to prevent and control gum disease, keeping your gums healthy and strong.
A hygienist can remove surface stains caused by tea, coffee, wine, and smoking. This makes your teeth look brighter and fresher. However, if you want to change the natural colour of your teeth, you’ll need professional teeth whitening, which the hygienists can also provide under the prescription of a dentist.
Yes. An oral health assessment with a dentist looks at the overall health of your teeth, gums, and mouth. A hygiene visit focuses specifically on cleaning your teeth and gums, and teaching you how to look after them between visits. Both are important for long-term oral health.
Most appointments last 30–45 minutes, depending on your needs.
Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily (floss or interdental brushes), use an electric toothbrush if possible, eat a balanced diet and limit sugary foods and drinks, and don’t smoke — smoking is a major risk factor for gum disease.
Yes, children benefit from hygiene visits too. Early prevention helps protect their teeth, teaches good habits, and makes dental visits a positive experience.
Yes. Hygienists are trained to spot signs of dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, or other oral health issues. If anything needs further attention, they will recommend you see the dentist.
Yes. In most cases, bad breath is caused by bacteria on the teeth, gums, and tongue. A thorough clean combined with good home care is one of the most effective ways to combat it.
